To accelerate the transition to a circular economy, the Swedish government decided in June 2020 on a new national target to increase the reuse of packaging. We at Rapsodine, together with our fantastic customers and retailers, want to contribute to achieving this goal. We are therefore launching our refill station in Mariestad, making us the first Swedish brand to offer packaging-free skin and hair care on refill.
We always strive to offer Rapsodine in the most sustainable way possible. One of the biggest challenges in the skincare industry is the use of packaging. Therefore, the investment in establishing a refill station in our store now feels important to seriously reduce our climate footprint, says Lotta Johansson Lönn, Product Manager at Rapsodine.
Can reduce plastic consumption of shampoo bottles by 98 percent
For over 30 years, we at Rapsodine have manufactured natural and organic skincare products in our own factory in Mariestad. The commitment to sustainability has been with us from the start and runs like a common thread throughout the entire business. In early 2020, we began collaborations with Gram Malmö and Unwrapped, becoming the first Swedish skincare brand to be sold on refill in their packaging-free stores. Now we are taking another step in our sustainability efforts and launching a refill station in our own store in Mariestad. Lotta explains how the concept works:
Customers can bring their Rapsodine bottle into our store and refill it as needed. Our bottles have a lifespan of about five years. If you reuse a 500 ml shampoo bottle during that time, instead of buying a new one every time the contents run out, you can reduce your plastic consumption of shampoo bottles by as much as 98 percent.
The goal is a completely circular product
From September 1st, shampoo, conditioner, shower cream, liquid soap, and shower oil will be available for refill in our store in Mariestad. The range of refill products will be expanded over time. To achieve an even greater positive impact on the climate, the plan is to establish more refill stations around the country in the long term, primarily in our retailers' stores and salons. We may be a small-scale family business, but our ambitions to reduce our climate impact are big.
We want to lead the change in our industry and ensure that more people start taking climate responsibility across the entire product chain – from manufacturing to delivery. Many talk about their products having organic content, but perhaps don't think about the amount of packaging they consume. Our goal is to be able to offer a completely circular product in the future, Lotta concludes.
You can find the refill station in our store in Mariestad.
