Sustainability at Rapsodine

Sustainability permeates everything we do. In our factory in Mariestad, we produce Swedish organic skin, hair, and home care products, where every step is characterized by care for both people and the environment.

Our sustainability work is based on the UN's Global Goals, where we focus on Goals 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, and 13. These areas reflect the issues we work with every day. On this page, we describe how we concretely contribute to the goals through our products, processes, and collaborations, and how we continue to develop our sustainability work going forward.

How we work at Rapsodine

Open each objective to learn more about how we work today and how we aim to develop in the future.

  • For everyone's right to health and a safe living environment

The UN's Global Goal number 3 is about ensuring good health and well-being for all people of all ages. Health is not only affected by access to healthcare, but also by the environment we live in, the food we eat, and the products we use every day. For us at Rapsodine, this means taking responsibility for both human health and the nature we are all a part of.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 3.4 – Promote mental health and well-being

    What it means:
The UN aims to reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases and promote mental health and well-being through preventive interventions and lifestyle improvements.

    How we contribute:
We want to make it easy to take care of both your skin and your well-being. Our products are based on Swedish, organic rapeseed oil, a renewable, locally sourced raw material that strengthens the skin's natural balance. We develop mild and natural formulations, and also offer unscented alternatives for those with sensitive skin or allergies.

Through our communication, we highlight the importance of balance, recovery, and self-care, and want to inspire a sense of well-being that goes beyond just skincare. Health also means caring for others. That's why we annually sponsor Glädjespridaren (the Spreader of Joy), which helps financially vulnerable families create Christmas joy for children and young people, and we support the Cancer Foundation in their important work for research and care. Internally, we work to create a safe and pleasant work environment through wellness grants and daily consideration, so that our employees feel good and thrive in their workplace.

Target 3.9 – Reduce diseases from hazardous chemicals and pollution

    What it means:
The UN aims to reduce the number of illnesses and deaths caused by hazardous chemicals and air, water, and soil pollution.

    How we contribute:
We actively work to reduce the chemical burden on both people and the environment. Our products are free from microplastics and mineral oils. Instead, they are based on natural and plant-based ingredients. We choose organic raw materials, use mild preservatives, and ensure that every ingredient is biodegradable. Through the "Bra Miljöval" (Good Environmental Choice) ecolabel on our household products, the use of bio-based plastic, and recyclable packaging, we contribute to reducing the spread of harmful substances in nature and creating safer products for both people and the environment.

How we will work towards Goal 3 going forward

We want to continue working and inspiring a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle both from within and without. Going forward, we are working to:

    • Develop more educational material on health, natural skin and hair care, and a sustainable lifestyle, for employees, customers, and retailers alike.
    • Continue to develop gentle and effective products that promote the skin's natural balance.
    • Communicate more clearly how our ingredients and product choices contribute to a reduced impact on both people and the environment.
  • For equal rights and opportunities for all people

UN Sustainable Development Goal number 5 is about achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Gender equality is a fundamental prerequisite for a sustainable society and an area where every organization can make a difference.

For us at Rapsodine, gender equality means seeing and valuing all people equally, regardless of gender, age, background, or culture. We believe in a workplace where respect, participation, and diversity create both well-being and creativity.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 5.1 – End all forms of discrimination

    What it means:
The UN wants to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls, and by extension, ensure equal rights for all people.

    How we contribute:
We clearly reject all forms of discrimination and actively work for an inclusive work environment. We employ people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures, which we see as a strength. We encourage openness, respect, and equality throughout the organization and provide everyone with the same opportunities for development and participation.

Target 5.5 – Ensure women's full participation and leadership

    What it means:
The UN wants to ensure women's full participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making.

    How we contribute:
At Rapsodine, roughly equal numbers of women and men are employed. We believe that leadership and responsibility should be based on competence, commitment, and care, not on gender or background.

How we will work with Goal 5 going forward

We want to continue to develop our work on gender equality and inclusion so that all employees feel safe, seen, and respected. Going forward, we will work to:

    • Develop and improve our gender equality and diversity policy, clearly outlining our position and goals.
    • Continue to create an open and inclusive corporate culture, where all employees are given equal opportunities for development and influence.
    • Conduct regular employee surveys to monitor well-being, participation, and the perception of gender equality in the workplace, and use the results to drive improvements.
  • For a future built on renewable energy and efficient resource use

UN Global Goal number 7 is about ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. Energy is the foundation for development, but it must be produced and used in a way that does not harm the climate.

For us at Rapsodine, this means taking responsibility for how the energy we use affects both the environment and future generations. We strive to constantly reduce our climate footprint through smart energy choices and efficient solutions in our production.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 7.2 – Increase the share of renewable energy

    What it means:
The UN wants to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the global energy mix to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

    How we contribute:
We use 100% green electricity throughout our operations. By choosing electricity from renewable sources, we reduce our carbon emissions and contribute to more sustainable energy use. Our ambition is to power all production with energy that is as climate-neutral as possible.

Target 7.3 – Improve energy efficiency

    What it means:
The UN wants to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, including through modern technology and sustainable investments.

    How we contribute:
We continuously work to reduce our energy consumption in the factory and office.

    • We are successively replacing all lighting with energy-efficient LED.
    • We use electric cars in the company and prioritize electric alternatives for future vehicles and transports.

Through these measures, we reduce both our climate impact and our operating costs while inspiring other companies to make more sustainable choices.

How we are working towards Goal 7

We want to continue developing our work to contribute to more sustainable energy use in all parts of the business. Moving forward, we are working to:

    • Investigate the possibility of producing our own renewable energy!
    • Continue to optimize our production processes to further reduce energy consumption.
    • Communicate our work with sustainable energy even more clearly, to inspire both consumers and partners to choose green energy.
  • For sustainable growth, meaningful jobs, and a strong local community

UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 is about promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
A sustainable economy is not just about profitability but about creating long-term value for people, society, and the environment.

For us at Rapsodine, this means contributing to job creation, collaborating with other businesses, and conducting our operations with care, responsibility, and a long-term perspective.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 8.3 – Promote sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation

    What it means:
The UN aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises in creating sustainable jobs through innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsible business practices.

    How we contribute:
Since our inception, we have focused on long-term and responsible entrepreneurship. Our production in Mariestad creates jobs outside metropolitan areas and contributes to a stronger local community. We collaborate with small-scale and local suppliers who share our values regarding sustainability and quality, and we are active in business groups and local networks that promote growth and collaboration in the region. By hosting interns, we contribute to learning, skills development, and future employment. We sponsor youth activities and local initiatives that strengthen community cohesion, and with our AAA credit rating, we demonstrate that sustainable entrepreneurship can also be economically stable.

Target 8.4 – Efficient resource use and sustainable production

    What it means:
The UN aims to improve resource efficiency in consumption and production and decouple economic growth from environmental degradation.

    How we contribute:
We strive to grow in a way that does not deplete natural resources. In our own factory in Mariestad, we aim for zero waste, and all second-sorting is sold in the factory store instead of being discarded.
Through our refill solutions and collaborations with packaging-free stores, we reduce waste and transportation needs, while inspiring others to choose more sustainable alternatives.
We continuously invest in energy-efficient solutions and sustainable materials, so that our growth is based on quality and responsibility, not overconsumption.

How we will work towards Goal 8 in the future

We want to continue contributing to a vibrant and sustainable business sector where growth and responsibility go hand in hand.
Going forward, we are working to:

    • Develop a Code of Conduct for suppliers to ensure sustainable and ethical working conditions throughout the entire chain.
    • Continue to develop sustainable collaborations with local businesses and organizations to strengthen both the ecological and social economy.
  • For a circular economy where resources are used thoughtfully

The UN's global goal number 12 is about ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. This means using natural resources in a way that does not deplete the environment and creating products that can be used, recycled, and reused in a circular flow.

For us at Rapsodine, it's about manufacturing products with the least possible impact from raw material to finished product and making it easy for our customers to consume sustainably in their daily lives.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 12.2 – Sustainable management of natural resources

    What it means:
The UN aims to achieve sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

    How we contribute:
We carefully select raw materials and primarily use Swedish-grown and organic ingredients. By manufacturing all products in our own factory in Mariestad, we can ensure efficient resource use, minimize waste, and reduce transportation.

Target 12.5 – Reduce waste through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse

    What it means:
The UN aims to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse.

    How we contribute:
We actively work to reduce waste at all stages of production.

    • Our products are concentrated and long-lasting, which means they last longer.
    • We sell second-grade products in the factory store instead of discarding them.
    • Our refill stations and collaborations with packaging-free stores make it possible to refill existing bottles instead of buying new ones, something we were pioneers in within Swedish skincare.
    • All our packaging is recyclable, and we use bio-based plastic and recycled materials wherever possible.
    • We refrain from unnecessary outer packaging and sort all packaging for recycling.

In this way, we strive for a circular product where resources are used repeatedly.

Target 12.8 – Increase knowledge and awareness of sustainable lifestyles

    What it means:
The UN aims to ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.

    How we contribute:
We want to inspire both customers and partners to make conscious choices. Through campaigns like Circular Week, where we donate a portion of sales to the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, we demonstrate that sustainability is more important than short-term consumption.
Through our channels, we share knowledge about natural skincare, reuse, and refills, and we educate retailers on how to communicate sustainable choices to their customers.

How we are moving forward with Goal 12

We want to continue developing our work towards a completely circular product where every step, from raw material to recycling, is carried out with care.
Going forward, we are working to:

    • Continue sharing knowledge across all our channels.
    • Develop more refill options and make sustainable choices even more accessible.
    • Develop a procurement policy that ensures sustainability in our own purchases.
    • Measure and report our climate and environmental impact to track our progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • For a stable climate and a sustainable future

The UN's Global Goal number 13 is about taking immediate action to combat climate change and its consequences. The climate issue is the greatest challenge of our time, and every company has a responsibility to reduce its impact and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable society.

For us at Rapsodine, this means actively reducing our emissions, making our energy use more efficient, and making climate-smart choices in every part of our operations, from raw materials to transportation.

    How we at Rapsodine contribute

Target 13.2 – Integrate climate change measures into policies and planning

    What it means:
The UN wants all countries and actors to integrate climate measures into their strategies, plans, and decisions to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change.

    How we contribute:
We have a long-term environmental commitment that permeates our entire operation. Sustainability is integrated into everything from product development and purchasing to communication and transportation.

    • We use 100% green electricity in our production and at the office.
    • We manufacture all products in Sweden, which reduces the need for long-distance transport.
    • We prioritize bio-based plastic and recycled materials in our packaging to reduce emissions from fossil plastics.
    • We prioritize purchasing packaging from local Swedish manufacturers.

By continuously evaluating and improving our processes, we work to reduce our climate footprint at every stage.

Target 13.3 – Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning

    What it means:
The UN wants to improve education, awareness, and human capacity to manage climate change and its effects.

    How we contribute:
We want to inspire both our customers and partners to make more climate-smart choices.
Through our communication, we show how small changes in everyday life can make a big difference, for example, by choosing refills, bio-based packaging, and Swedish, locally produced products.
We share knowledge about sustainable skincare and eco-friendly alternatives in our channels and encourage long-term thinking even in consumption.

How we are working towards Goal 13 in the future

We want to continue to reduce our climate impact and at the same time inspire other companies to do the same.
Moving forward, we are working to:

    • Map and measure our total climate footprint, to be able to set clear goals and track our progress.
    • Investigate the possibility of producing our own renewable energy.
    • Continue to develop climate-smart packaging and strengthen our collaborations with suppliers who share our climate ambitions.
    • Participate in and support initiatives that raise awareness of the climate issue, both locally and nationally.
